Please let me introduce myself, my name is Jimmy Spears and I am the Gallia County Democratic candidate for Sheriff.
I was born and raised in Pike County Kentucky along with six brothers and sisters. I left Pike County and moved to Erie County, Ohio, where I started my law enforcement career in 1970.
In 1977, I attended OPOTA and become a full-time deputy sheriff. In 1980, I moved back to Pike County where I worked for the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.
From 1980 to 1990, I was the Chief of Police in Elkhorn City, Kentucky, while also working for the Sheriff’s Department.
In 1990, I moved to Gallia County then started with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Department as an investigator in 1991. During that time, I was recognized as Deputy of the Year by the Ohio Auto Theft Organization
In 1998, I returned to being a road officer where I was in charge of transports, helped with the neighborhood crime watches, TRIAD (a senior’s program), and was in charge of the BSSA (Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association) communications truck.
During that time, I was a Sergeant and a Corporal. I also worked part time for several local police departments including Rio Grande, Oak Hill, and Middleport.
In 2018, I retired after 26 years of service with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Department. Even though I retired, I have kept my law enforcement credentials active by volunteering with the Syracuse Police Department as a patrol officer.
I have 49 years of law enforcement experience, and it would be a great honor to become the next Sheriff of Gallia County.
I would appreciate your support in the upcoming election!
